I've been super lazy lately and not writing any actual posts. My friend showed me this song the other day and I'm obsessed with it. The video is kind of crazy and I didn't realize that the singer was a woman. On a side note, I'm convinced that everyone is a contralto. Or at least, the internet claims that everyone is a contralto.

Here is the story of a 13-year-old boy from Rakkestad, Norway, who found that the music of Creed saved him from a wolf attack. By inspiring the animals to saunter off in disgust. Via NME:

"Eikrem was listening to Creed’s Overcome through his mobile phone and decided he’d try and utilise the band’s music to scare the wolves away. He reportedly removed his headphones and turned the volume up to maximum, at which point the wolves turned and walked away.

Eikrem said that when the wolves heard Creed they “didn’t really get scared, they just turned around and simply trotted away”.

Scientists have long known they have a highly refined sense of hearing, but this new info proves finally that wolves have better taste than the year 1999. Today, we are all wolves.

Could There Be a Better Song About Killing Children?

Right when it came out, I got the Decemberists' newest album "The Hazards of Love." The album is considered a is a rock opera, with all songs contributing to a unified narrative. I hadn't really listened to to it, I think I heard it once when I was in the shower or something. I went on a trip this weekend and my iPod was on shuffle and the Rake's Song came on. I started listening to the lyrics:

Charlotte I buried after feeding her foxglove

Dawn was easy, she was drowned in the bath

Eziah fought but was easily bested

Burned his body for incurring my wrath

As, your probably guessed from the blog title, the narrator of the song is describing how he killed his children. It's a gruesome topic, but I love this song! There is something charming about how the lyrics are written.

Lady Gaga: Waste of Time

I just spent nearly ten minutes watching this Lady Gaga video. Would I recommend you do the same? No, definitely not. I only the posted the video so you would know which one I was talking about and have access to it. Generally, I try to avoid pop music, but I always end up being forced to watch crappy videos such as this. I just figured I'd save myself some time and get it out of the way now.

I heard that this video is considered somewhat controversial, but if that's what they were aiming for it missed the mark. The video is essentially a man's fantasy of a women's prison. The women are thin, scantily cad and not at all like real inmates. Being true to our culture, the video sexualizes women and lesbianism while adding a dash of violence. The director was going for a Quentin Tarantino vibe, but overall comes off more like old Madonna. After being released from prison, Gaga & Beyoncé are portrayed in traditional gender roles and at the end add poison to their cooking. Didn't she poison a man in her Paparazzi video? How's that for innovation?
