Bulletin Board Idea

Isn't this bulletin board cute?! I ran into a photo of a similar cork board online and figured that it would be easy enough to make. Sure enough, I found a blog with instructions on how to do so. You can read about it here. Now, I just need to find an old frame. . . and some wall space.

Remember Shrinky Dinks?

As a kid (and possibly in the recent past) I used to play with Shrinky Dinks. Well, did you know that there is printer paper that does the same for photos! I didn't! I totally want to buy some and play around with it.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Does anyone else think that it looks like the animals have been taxidermied?

I hate Facebook

I was reading about the decline of Facebook when I found this video. I guess as more middle-aged and elderly people join Facebook, more college aged users stop using it.

Sorry, I posted two video parodies in one day.

David Lynch Parody

I just found this video the other day. I'm obsessed with David Lynch. My friend and I used to do impressions of him like this one. I'm pretty surprised to find a video like this. I'm even more surprised to find that the guy made a whole series of them. If you are familiar with David Lynch and his body of work you will enjoy these videos.

Zozo the Magic Queen

I love Marie Antoinette, so I was delighted to discover the "Zozo the Magic Queen" calendar. It is so cute! I can't wait for 2010 so that I can use it!

Doughy Zooey

Have you seen the new cotton commercial featuring the actress Zooey Deschanel?  I really love the gray and red dress she wears in it.  They sell it at Mod Cloth but of course it's sold out!  Did you know that Zooey is named after the J.D. Salinger novel, Franny and Zooey?  I didn't realize this because she pronounces her name "zoe-y" and the novel is commonly pronounced "zoo-ey," because of the extra "o."  According to Deschanel, in an interview with Scotsman.com, the correct pronunciation of her name should rhyme with "doughy".  Yet, the correct pronunciation is only truly known by the author.  "I don't really care what Salinger says about my name," she declared. "It's my name."

Hit Me, You Can't Hurt Me

, originally uploaded by multi_one_one.
When I returned to my car yesterday after school, I discovered that someone had hit it and left a note. Not just hit it, but smashed it in. I can't open the driver's door and the metal is all crinkled around the wheel. I talked to the guy who did it, and I was surprisingly calm. I am under the impression that he might be slightly retarded. This is partly due to the way the note was written, the fact that he was backing out of his drive way across the street when he hit my car, and also from just talking to him. "It's a shame to ruin such a pretty li'l car," is what he told me.

I feel mostly disappointed. It's frustrating dealing with insurance companies. Also, I don't like having to crawl in though the passenger's door.

Bored to Death

I love Jason Schwartzman. From Rushmore to his band Coconut Records, I have always been a big fan. He is starring in the new HBO show "Bored to Death." It's a cute quirky comedy that seems more like an indie film that a television show. I've only seen the first two episodes, but so far so good.

Television Nerd

, originally uploaded by Taryn Davis.

I'm so excited about today's new episodes of The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and of course Project Runway! On Sunday, Curb Your Enthusiasm will be back! I'm such a nerd.

If you don't get Showtime and HBO (or any sort of television service) go to Ninja Video and watch them!

Where are you from?

I thought I would share with you the percentage of blog readers from each country.  I'm surprised to see India in second place.

In other news, I changed the way commenting works again.  You are no longer required to sign in but you will have to complete a captcha.  I've also added a "Top Commenters" section on the side.  Thank you for commenting, I love reading them!

Boy Girl Party!

I had a really good time with my friends today.  Sarah bought some really cute cards by Susie Ghahremani.  I used to have a Poketo wallet featuring her whale design that I loved.  Gharhremani's web site is called Boy Girl Party and has loads of adorable stuff.  Totes, shirts, magnets, necklaces, and prints.  I'm a big fan of her hedgehog themed sets.

I've been in a bad mood lately. Figures. Please leave some blog comments.

Smarty Pugs?

I really love the website Mod Cloth.  They have really cute vintage-inspired clothing.

I was browsing the site today when I encountered their new section, "Smarty Pugs."  I find it sort of funny, but mostly disturbing.  As the website puts it, "Look as brilliant as these geniuses with thought-provoking frames."  I will agree that the photos are thought-provoking.

At Home
H:  I'm thinking of moving the hedgehog's cage.
M:  Why?
H:  It's bad enough being a stinky hedgehog, but who'd want to live next to a litter box?

Bad Economy

I love this.  Check out more comics at the Warehouse.

"Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling"

Ryan Gosling is definitely my celebrity crush. . . not that I hang photos of him on my walls or anything.  I, uh, watch his films just because of his fine acting.  Anyway, I just discovered the site Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling.  It's hilarious!  You should check it out and submit your own photos.

Required Listening

I thought I'd just post a playlist instead of making you find the tracks and listen to them elsewhere.

Hot Shots

hot shots book singing in san fran, originally uploaded by lomokev.
I just got the book Hot Shots and I am so excited about it! It is a simple book with great ideas on how to take more interesting photos. It has full page pictures with a paragraph on the opposite page describing how to get similar results. It's great because unlike a lot of photography books, it's not long and overly technical, it focuses mostly on composition.

I would definitely recommend it if you are interested in photography, but sometimes suffer from "writer's block" when looking though a lens.

Deadworry

I love Deadworry's hand screen printed totes and shirts. You should check out their Etsy shop for some great deals. My favorite is the "Octo-Owl."

Favorite Places in Redding

Cal's Books
Located in warehouse-like building behind a car lot. I always thought the sign said "Cat's Books." It's the kind of old fashioned bookstore Barnes and Nobel is trying to imitate. (minus the Starbucks) There are shelves stacked to the ceiling and jazz music is always playing. This is not the average, romance novel filled, used bookstore.

Bog Bean
Mostly sells used CDs, but also has used books, DVDs, software, and video games. Decorated with kitsch and a mismatch of rugs, it has sort of a hippie vibe. A fun place just to browse and has good deals on used games.

The Squire Room
A total dive bar. This bar is strangely charming with it's '70s motif and red lighting. A good place to escape from hip hop music while drinking. The bartender, Frank, is entertaining.

Sue's Java Cafe
The best coffee I've had in Redding. More on the expensive side. Drab mauve walls and shabby seating. Features local artists and musicians. Plenty of vegan treats and awesome employees.

Los Gordos Taqueria (not pictured)
Delicious Mexican food! I could eat there everyday! Cheap prices and great service. The tiny restaurant is located downtown. You can watch the Spanish station on their flat screen TV.

Girls With Antlers?

Have you noticed all the clothes, prints, movies, and books featuring girls with antlers? I tried to research it online, but only found blog postings that pondered the same thing. Then I found the Wikipedia article on Cuckold. According to the article,

In many countries "horns" are a metaphor for suffering the infidelity of a partner, not limited to husbands in modern usage. The gesture of the horned hand can be used to insult the cuckold.

For more information you can read about the seventeen century French print The celebration of the Order of Cuckoldry before the throne of her majesty, Infidelity.

HTC Touch Pro 2

HTC Touch Pro 2, originally uploaded by Compulenta II.

I've been shopping for phones lately and have decided on HTC's Touch Pro 2. The only problem is actually getting it. It was supposed to be available on Sprint this July but somehow keeps getting delayed. It is available on T-Mobile (not my carrier) in "Sparkle Brown." Yuck! Who wants to spend $350 on a brown phone?! I finally visited the Sprint store and after dealing with some sleazy salesmen I found out that it was going to be released September 8th. Today, I found out that this may not be the case. I might be delayed until Windows Mobile 6.5 comes out in October. I'm not particularly impatient, I just want to know for sure when it will be available.

Sunshine Cleaning

sunshine-cleaning-1, originally uploaded by sharetheglove.
A cute and quirky movie. I expected a comedy and it was somewhat comedic at times, but I felt that it was mostly a "heart-warming" type of film. I love Emily Blunt's style in the movie. I'm totally diggin' the pouf with pigtails. In fact, I think I'll try it today.

Coraline

{day 110}, originally uploaded by Ann Marie316.

I've watched the movie Coraline a few times, and I've noticed that one of the ghost children refers to the other mother as the "belle dame." What's that all about? It refers to the French phrase "la belle dame sans merci" meaning the beautiful lady without mercy. It is the title of a ballad written by the poet John Keats.

I think this photo based off of Coraline is so clever.
