Sometimes, I feel like the more I tell people about my life the less they will want to be friends with me. I could just be having a weird week though. Better keep it to myself for now.

Wars Bring out the Bestial in People

I always wanted a pen pal. I love sending mail and thought it would be a good idea to have a designated person to do this with. Someone who would be as interested in writing letters as I am. A few months ago, I found Any Soldier, a website that is supposed to hook you up with a pen pal. You write a letter then it is given to someone who doesn't/didn't receive any mail. Voilà! Pen pals!

I carefully typed a thoughtful letter on my vintage typewriter. I'm not patriotic, but I even expressed my gratitude to the soldier for their service in Afghanistan. I sent photos of Whiskeytown Lake. I offered to send supplies. Did this person write back? NO! Did they e-mail? NO!

Well, this certainly reflects poorly on the United States Army and I am going to take this personally!

Super Bowl = Super Bore

I don't watch the Super Bowl. Never have. Sure, I've seen parts of it, like when I used to work and it was on in the break room, but I would never intentionally watch it on my own time.

I did watch the commercials online though. I thought that they were pretty lame. The Doritos "Crystal Ball" ad was top rated and probably the best of all the commercials I have seen. Meaning that the ad was only mildly amusing. There's been a lot of talk online about the Google commercial, but it was old. Google reused it for the Super Bowl. The Motorola ad featured Megan Fox in a bath tub "sexting". What a great role model for teens!

Overall, none of the commercials really stood out this year. It was pretty much the same old stuff you see on television any day. I guess we can blame it on the recession.

I've been feeling bad since Thursday. At first, I thought it was just stress and sleep deprivation. I've been having strange symptoms though. Headaches, weakness, etc.

Anyway, I'm not dead. Just too lazy to write blogs, emails, or call anyone. I barely have the energy to watch movies.

Waltz with Bashir

I watched Waltz with Bashir (2008) this morning. It is an Israeli animated film about the 1982 Lebanon war. The film was amazing! I knew nothing about the war going in to it and this film blew me away!

The main character has no recollection of the war and he searches out other soldiers to try understand what happened and regain his memory. The results are a psychologically interesting, dynamic, well made film!

Overall Rating: A+
